From what I understand, they dry the meat - http://www.pet-snacks.co.uk/detail/?id=10 - it's not really greaves as those are mostly made of fat, tallow, while this dog food consists mostly of real meat, as on that web, 55% protein.

Thanks to everyone, oh, and yes, the client is identical; Jenny and I discussed the issue at some length last year, but - as Jenny rightly points out - there was never a final answer. We are now signing off another text of the batch for print, so I just wanted to make a last ditch attempt to find out :-).

Sounds fine as a generic term, in which case IMO the asker is actually correct by suggesting just beef greaves (or cracklings)? ?

Maybe just "rendered"? LOL Jenny ... such a memorable conversation, and almost exactly one year ago ...
So how about just the very generic "rendered"? That covers all the bases, including baking, leaving out in the sun to melt, other conversion processes ...
so ... rendered beef (or suet) cracklings?

PS We were also puzzled about the "nesmažené", as škvarky are made by frying (rendering) animal fat -- which is why the client said they should really be called "lojové škvarky".

Jayzkomaniacs (Facebook group) This same term came up last year. Perhaps the same client. Some of the things said there:
Translator: Apparently the client has given a 'helpful' explanation, that it's actually more accurate to say "lojové škvarky"...
Colleague: In the Good Soldier Svejk, lojove skvarky is translated as "suet cracklings", whatever that is ...
Translator: [The client] is going for something with greaves in the end, which is the residue left after the rendering of tallow, according to the Collins dictionary.
