Headstock alignment
Place a length of mild steel bar in the chuck and take a light cut over the O.D. for about 6" of its length.
(Do not use the tailstock centre as a steady during this test.)
Micrometer readings at the two ends of the turned diameter (A and B in the sketch) should be the same.
If the two readings are not the same, the headstock may be easily realigned by releasing the headstock holding-down bolts and adjusting the set- over bolts situated on the underside of the headstock between the bedways.
