English term

they were looking at

Non-PRO English Social Sciences Psychology
Hi, there is a verb phrase which to me can be expressed in 3 different ways according to this context (a psychology dissertation), but I might be wrong. I have put the three ways of expressing it in inverted commas separated by a backward slash.

Due to this, man has damaged himself only, and the women who have always been in man's shadow got to the point in history where they could not bear '' what they were looking at'' / '' to look at what was happening '' / '' what they saw ''.

Ok, I meant a normal slash only, sorry :)

and by the way a backslash looks like this \:
:-)

Ok, thanks a lot .

How can we know? The three have slightly different nuances - the first and third are very similar, the second is from a different viewpoint - but none is ungrammatical or unsuited to that type of text. Only you can know what spin you want to put on it...

I don't need rewriting, I would like to know what the most correct expression to say that women felt that is...

The whole sentence looks odd to me ... and it might need rewriting - but without knowing what you want to say (context?) it's hard to decide.

@Asker What is the question, exactly?
