Verpfändungen, Pfändungen von Gehaltsansprüchen (Voluntary) pledges, (AmE) garnishments of wages/(BrE) attachments of earnings Explanation: Beware: they are 2 different processes that are often mixed up, even by lawyers. The first is voluntary, as in the UK deed of covenanting income to charity and the second is a *forcible* method of enforcement of a judgment or execution debt against the bank etc. paid the employer's wages to the employee. As a mnemonic. see the painting 'Die Pfändung' (levy of execution) by the late Austrian artist Ferdinand Waldmüller where a tenant farmer's family is - mnorosely - chucked off the farm for rent/debts unpaid.
