For your purposes, I would say underground if it's not too technical, or else "retaining wall". It clearly means that the wall directly abuts earth, and thus is usually found in basements. This building appears to be built on a slope, with one half sunk into the ground. You can't call your ground level walls "basement" walls, though, so one of the above might help.

...and complete closure on the other by the retaining walls, embedded in the earth. Or something like that.
