Art/Literary - Philosophy / Eschatological Verification
English term or phrase: experiencing is & experiencing-as
We should begin, I would suggest, where the present essay began: with the fact that some people experience the events of their lives and of the world theistically -that is, in terms of the concept of God.All conscious experience of our environment is in terms of the concepts by which we apprehend (or of course misapprehend) objects and situations as having this or that character or meaning. In other words, all experiencing is, as I have argued elsewhere,experiencing-as.

Reference: John Hick's 'experiencing-as'

Reference information:
Each person's experience of the way the world is, is therefore an interpretation of it specific to that individual's point-of-view.

When Hick applies this insight to the matter of religious experience, he concludes that all religious experience is simply a particular experience of the divine by the devotee (what he also calls 'experiencing-as').
