Flemish term

GDA (gerechtelijke dienst arrondissement)

Non-PRO Flemish to English Law/Patents Law (general)
I have the term

Criminal Investigation Service (GDA ) for the district of XYZ

and was wondering whether there is an English equivalent for the abbreviation (CIS for example?) or whether to leave it as GDA?

Some insight here: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/flemish_to_english/law_general/797...

The suggestion was to leave as is and footnote the 1st occurrence.

Reference:

GDA, CID, CIS, SBI, FGP, FBI

Just to note: the GDA is now called the Federale Gerechtelijke Politie (FGP)

It is the UK equivalent of the Criminal Investigation Dept. (CID): see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_Investigation_Departme...

US entities carrying out the same type of functions would perhaps be the FBI at the state level, or the SBI. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_bureau_of_investigation

There are several options I see for Criminal Investigative Service, as well.
