I had guessed as much but had not had the time to check.
anaesthetics/anaesthetist = British English
anaesthetic (agent/drug) BE - anesthetic (agent/drug) AE
The anaesthetist has to/must (will?) answer (deal with?) questions within his field.
If your context is serving to accentuate the role of the anaesthetist compared to that of another sepcialist, then you may need something a little more emphatic :
It is the anaesthetist's role to answer questions relating to his field of expertise.
PS : Never seen "anesthiesiologist" before.
