Like your suggestion, Nikki. Would you like to post it as an answer?

Thanks SJLD

I had guessed as much but had not had the time to check.
SJLD Mar 19, 2012:
spelling anesthesiology/anesthesiologist = American English
anaesthetics/anaesthetist = British English

anaesthetic (agent/drug) BE - anesthetic (agent/drug) AE

who does what This looks like info for a patient (informed consent form?) - I agree with Nikki SD. Use plain English that the patient will understand (the anesthetist will answer...; The anesthetist's job includes..., etc.)
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Mar 19, 2012:
Context? Might the context allow, or even require, something a little less formal in English?

The anaesthetist has to/must (will?) answer (deal with?) questions within his field.

If your context is serving to accentuate the role of the anaesthetist compared to that of another sepcialist, then you may need something a little more emphatic :

It is the anaesthetist's role to answer questions relating to his field of expertise.

PS : Never seen "anesthiesiologist" before.

within his/her field

The anaesthetist (GB) / anesthesiologist (US) has to/must (will?) answer (deal with?) questions within his field.

Depending on context, shorter and simpler still be be more suitable :
the anaesthetist will answer (your) questions/any questions you may have.

If the term is beyond most patients you could always say 'he is qualified to....'
Peer comment(s):

agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : For a formal context this would read well.
