Polish term or phrase:klin napowietrzający
[Narodowy Park Kampinoski] "To zielone płuca w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie wielkiej aglomeracji, do której powietrze zasobne w tlen dostarczane jest poprzez kliny napowietrzające i grawitacyjnie doliną Wisły."
Moim zdaniem ta figura stylistyczna ma rodowód wojskowo-wojenny, ale dowodów nie mam, to tylko mój pogląd.

klin może mieć kształt pasa i vice versa :) http://tinyurl.com/33opor5 "Green wedge ventilating/supplying air..." pasuje tylko dlatego, że "green wedge" występuje w dyskursie urbanistycznym.
Tekst ma charakter czysto urbanistyczny. "Klin napowietrzający" stylistycznie z wojną nie ma nic wspólnego wg. mnie.
Podejrzewam, że nie ma potrzeby dokładnego tłumaczenia klin = wedge, bo autor zastosował środek stylistyczny kojarzący się z tematyką wojenną (nasze wojska wbiły się klinem w linie obronne przeciwnika, itp.). Kliny napowietrzające tak naprawdę mogą mieć różne kształty, są obszarami zielonymi, np. parkami, mogą być obszarami niskiej zabudowy ustawionej wzdłuż kierunku ruchu powietrza. Klin jest tutaj tylko hasłem, skrótem myślowym, nie musi być traktowany dosłownie.

I found an example of the usage of 'city aeration' - "The gain would go to more 'open spaces' - parks, gardens and squares - to aerate the new city and add to its beauty" (http://tinyurl.com/33ses4v) - but it's an exception; you're right, one can aerate the soil, not the city :). "Napowietrzanie" denotes the supply of fresh air, replacement of polluted or dry air with humid air etc.
This is how this lady expressed the idea you are trying to convey: "I'm so pleased that people are recognising the importance of the Vivary Green Wedge that brings fresh country air into our town centre." http://www.somersetcountygazette.co.uk/news/taunton_news/500...
One does not normally aerate a town or urban area...The word is normally used to mean "ventilate" (to expose to or as if to fresh air : VENTILATE, AIR - a well-aerated room) or supply with bubbles. It's a horse of another color... To supply with air or expose to the circulation of air: aerate soil. 2. To expose to oxygen, as in the oxygenation of the blood by respiration. 3. To supply or charge (liquid) with a gas, especially to charge with carbon dioxide. These are the most common meanings...

I feel ‘green wedge’ would be ok if supplemented descriptively to ensure it’s expressly about aeration, just as “klin zieleni napowietrzający miasto.”

The phrase is therefore written in italics, which I daresay calls its Englishness into question. Nevertheless, even if we accepted that hit, THIS SOLE HIT is not amply sufficient to prove that it is THE Polish equivalent. The word as it is used by Polish people is a standard technical term. We would be well advised to find the English standard term. I hope and am even sure the phrase will be identified sooner or later, and, much to my displeasure and disappointment, it will not be the phrase you have proposed above. You know it, too, fighter. But not to worry, as they say in London....
I am just trying to help. The proposed answer "aeration corridor" does NOT exist in the English language as spoken in the 21st century. "Aeration" can by no strech of imagination be used to express the meaning sought by the asker. To the best of my knowledge the phrase proposed by Polangmar yields as many as modest 16 google hits, with no single hit coming from a UK or US webpage. You can check it yourself and correct me if I'm wrong, for which TIA..... I suggest "wait for the expert opinion" is what should be done. Or do it in a descriptive way, at a pinch.....
