Initially in the UK we were told to expect economic slowdown, maybe a year before growth resumed as normal, or maybe a little longer and a little slower. Then the language slipped first to recession and then to depression. Lower growth became accelerating contraction, the period to repay bale-out to the banks lengthened from years to decades.
