Could it mean that the fingers follow the direction of the lymph nodes? I'm presuming this is about lymphatic drainage and it looks to me like it could just be describing the movement rather than the level of pressure... while "follow" isn't used in the article in the link below, the directions emphasise the type of movement of the fingers not the pressure.
