German term

Glück jedoch hat der Tüchtige

German to English Marketing Idioms / Maxims / Sayings
Wo ein Wille ist, da ist auch ein Weg - Glück jedoch, das hat der Tüchtige.

Is there an equivalent in English for: Der Tüchtige hat Glück?

Discussion

Martin Wenzel (asker) Dec 11, 2008:
Yes, emphasis on sweat and brains ...I settled for: ....but fortune favours people who work hard.

This seemed to fit best. The emphasis from the context was more on people who pursue their goals single-mindedly and with persistence.

hazmatgerman (X) Dec 11, 2008:
Agree as emphasis is on sweat (remember Einstein's 'inspiration'?) not daring.
Helen Shiner Dec 10, 2008:
Your suggestion is perfect.

German term (edited): Glück jedoch hat der Tüchtige...

but persistence pays

is what comes to mind - but I'm slightly hazy as to just what they are trying to convey, and why they have chosen to juxtapose this with "where there's a will there's a way".

this link will explain the history of the idiom. If you run both the German phrase and English phrase through google, you should get some hits.
