En los encuentros deportivos de equipo, se suele llamar "challenge" cuando se enfrenta un jugador frente a otro, por ejemplo: el portero frente a un delantero que ha llegado solo frente a la portería.

Tiene lógica de esta forma, pero tendrías que aclararlo más o menos: "...después de enfrentarse en un mano a mano..."

Es la idea, pero la jerga futbolística cambia según el país.
