English term or phrase: required by x to y

Dear colleagues!

I am currently translating a text from English to German which was obviously written by a native speaker of the Spanish language. A lot of of the syntax really seems to be taken from the Spanish text this person had in mind while typing the English text into his PC.

I would like to know if any of you with a much better command of Spanish than mine are able to see what the Spanish writer could have meant.

The text goes like this:

The documents *required by company X to Mr. Smith* for the credit granting werde never delivered.

The syntax in this sentence seems very odd to me, to say the least, in particlar "required by x to Mr. Smith", I would rather expect "required by x from Mr. Smith".

I don't need a translation into Spanish, what I need to know is how someone with a very good command of Spanish (probably a native speaker himself) would interpret this sentence written by a Spaniard. Is the English text just outright wrong or is it the literal translation of a Spanish structure? What would you make of it?

And then you would want to say, "for the granting of credit" or "in order for credit to be granted" rather than "for the credit granting."
