Peripheral economies (i.e. lesser developed economies) traditionally produce primary products (=> primary sector), not manufactured goods (=> secondary sector ), however, these economies have moved into exporting manufactured goods, and thus have become ‘secondarized’, i.e. as economies they have progressed from being based on the primary sector to being based on the secondary sector; in fact use of the term ‘secondarization’ indicates a definite evolution from one state to the other….

I think you could use ‘secondarization’ with comillas, as for example, you will see lots of examples of ‘tertiarization’…so it’s not a huge existential leap for the reader….

I get the impression from the extract that the text is aimed at people who know something of economics (eg, the ref to Tello implies an academic text), in which case, they would be as familiar as me - at least - with the notions of primary/secondary/tertiary sectors of teh economy - a division which by teh way, is a basic economic principle i.e. any 17 yo studying economics will study this concept on day one:-) )

There are around 900 hits for 'tertiarization' + 'economy'. No it may not be in MW, but what does that mean (if MW is like the DRAE, for example, or is simply not updated frequently).These concepts (tertiarization, and now secondarization) are only as old or less old than globalization.....and oddly enough, MW does NOT have the economic meaning of tertiary.

Note that I don't agree that tertiarization is outsourcing, although it may be A meaning, I wdn't say it was a primary one.....and if you check a few of the first hits in Google, you will see refs to services, manufacturing etc, not outsourcing.
