The heated crude from the crude heater is fed to the crude tower in the bottom section at tray 40 and the bottom product is drawn from the tower bottom.

The crude enters the flash zone where it separates into vapor and liquid streams.

The heat input to the crude is so adjusted that it provides for the recovery of all the distillates as well as for the overflash reflux.

The overflash is the additional reflux that is required to scrub the heavies that may entrain into the bottom most side draw from the flash zone, thereby affecting its color. The liquid stream from the flash zone descends the trays in the bottom section, where it is stripped with LP steam (3.5 BAR) to recover lights from the bottom product.
