I thing the best thing to do is use the Brazilian term and supply a description like the one I've offered. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 25 mins (2016-08-14 17:03:46 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- .........to conventional buses. |

Jitney Explanation: ônibus lotação => Jitney Jitney may refer to: share taxis that competed with streetcars https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jitney -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 19 hrs (2016-08-15 12:33:31 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Popularity: Bottom 40% of words Definition of jitney plural jitneys 1 slang : nickel 2a(1) 2 [from the original 5 cent fare] : bus 1a; especially : a small bus that carries passengers over a regular route on a flexible schedule Jitneys weren't worth a dime - just a nickel. In the early 1900s, jitney was slang for "nickel," but it wasn't long before the term was applied to a new mode of public transportation that only cost a nickel. When they were introduced in American cities at the beginning of the century, vehicular jitneys could be any automobiles that carried passengers over a set route for a cheap fare, but eventually the term was applied specifically to small buses. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/jitney |
