In Brazil there is a special police squad (named Delegacia da Mulher) dedicated to the protection of women against men violence, be it domestic or not, therefore I believe the appropriate expression would be "Violence against women"

This is the official term used, because the violence is mostly (unfortunately in 99.9% of the cases) against women, but there are also cases of violence against men, battered husbands etc. So if you’re talking about violence against women in particular use violence against women or gender-based violence, otherwise gender-based violence.
