@ Michelangela It's no feedback control as supposed by some peers but a keyboard like this: https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/JOLLY2-4-Weight-Indic...

Kim Metzger Apr 12, 2020:
Yes, alternates - not numbers and values entered after something else (subsequently)
Michelangela (asker) Apr 12, 2020:
French source might be a translation It seems that the display alternates/switches between showing a code, and the screen that allows entering a value. The analogy with the wrist watch was very useful. As a non-native French speaker and engineer, I fully understand what they mean with "sensibilité de la capteur": if the object placed on the load cell weights less than a certain threshold, it might not be detected. It happens all the time with ordinary scales as well. I couln't find the term in question "alterné à la valeur" in any English version online. I translated it as "alternates with a value".

Johannes Gleim Apr 12, 2020:
It's logically You never could enter both data simultaneously. The entered data are stored and need not to be re-entered. Or do you assume a device without internal memory, requiring to re-enter all data again and again?

Herr Gleim wrote: "reminds me a digital wrist-watch" But why "subsequently"?
Tony M Apr 11, 2020:
@ Asker May depend on the wider context, in particular, how these things are being displayed, and how they are being entered.
If this were a very simply numeric display, it could simply be that the code alternates with the value — in other words, when the code appears, it then displays say - - - for you to enter the value required.

alternate (setpoint) value

agree José Patrício : setpoint (also set point or set-point) is the desired or target value for an essential variable - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Setpoint_(control_system)

neutral Tony M : I have grave doubts that this would be expressed in this curious way in FR.
