English term

dial-meter

English to French Marketing Telecom(munications) context: Survey, evaluation responses "Using a qualitative approach, respondents’ immediate reaction to the speech was measured by means of a ‘dial-meter’, followed by a group discussion. Using the dial-meters, respondents recorded their response"
Hi, could anybody help me translate this word?
I was thinking of a kind of "enregistreur". Any other ideas?
The contexte of the sentence is: Speech shown in its entirety and immediate reactions recorded via dial-meter
Many thanks in advance for your help,
Rachida

Tony M Apr 8, 2011:
Context Your new context changes everything of course — we could never have guessed this meaning of 'speech' here. However, the exact meaning of dial-meters' reamins unclear; now we know that these are 'respondents', please tell us where they are responding: is this a survey over the Internet, for example, or were these people in some kind of interview room? I.e. is this a virtual 'dial', or perhaps a literal, physical one?

Applaudimètre C'est ce qui me vient à l'esprit... Est-ce qu'on est dans le contexte d'un plateau de télévision ?

dial-indicator? I agree with Gilles, we need context, could be very different things, for example a dial indicator=comparateur, which is indeed a metering device, in a mechanical context where "dial"="aiguille", but in a telephone context "dial" = "numérotation" or "appel"

dial-meter je pense à compteur mais ça manque de contexte

It depends what this dial (cadran) has to visualise...
As it seems sound here (speech is sound), it could be
(as I do not have more details) that it is visualised
on a display (affichage) and that the amplitude
of the reactions also shows, reason why I spoke
of Vu-mètre...
Just an idea...
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : In the light of the extra context, I'd say definitely not vu-mètre, and almost certainly not 'affichage' either; some kind of 'cadran' does, however, seem possible. Pending more context!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you very much for your help. I finally chose the answer "cadran d'affichage" or "boitier d'affichage" since it's a physical device to register rates from 0 to 10. I hope it will be clear enough. "
