English term

hand-holding interface

English to French Tech/Engineering IT (Information Technology)
Unlike the hand-holding interface of BeInSync, the Mesh Web site starts you off with a screen showing existing devices (including the online file manager, Live Desktop) and a big '+' button for adding one. With a new device, you log in to the Mesh site and click the '+' button to download and install the Mesh software. Once you've set up all your computers, you can connect to any one of them and even control that system remotely via Windows Remote Desktop, a Windows XP and Vista feature that Live Mesh enhances. (You might also need to install an ActiveX control on the system you're using to access another of your devices.) Unlike BeInSync, which provides access just to the data residing on other machines, the remote-desktop feature in Mesh lets you take complete control of a distant computer, although a slow Internet hookup will make the experience painful if not impossible.

Discussion

Martin Cassell Aug 22, 2008:
all about points of view As I read it, this review is condemning the first site (BeInSync) by referring to its interface as "hand-holding": in other words, it treats you like a baby by guiding you carefully through every step. By contrast the second site has a more direct and businesslike approach, in other words it treats you like a grown-up.
.
Example: "Wii Play definitely does a decent job of introducing the controls, but its hand-holding approach is almost insulting when intuitive controls should be enough to get the player going." [http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/index.php?topic=20...]

interface prise de tête

hand-holding also stands for arm wrestle (bras de fer)

Peer comment(s):

disagree Martin Cassell : sorry Sébastien, the meaning is definitely "which supports you at every step" // because the author dislikes the over-supportive approach

why the "unlike" then?

interface assistée

Peer comment(s):

neutral Martin Cassell : the implication here, though, is surely that it is "trop assistée"

but don't you think that the rest of the text, as in the refs I gave, shows that?
