"patient-facing" would be potentially applicable to anyone in direct contact with "patients" - I can't see how participants in clinical trial could be expected to be in direct [face to face] contact with any kind of "patients".
In the same way "non-patient-facing" are those who are not in direct/face to face contact with "patients" [another name for "participants" in a clinical trial?]
It probably makes sense if you have the whole of the ST in front of you, but just as it is the idea that "patient-facing" staff of the organiser of the clinical trial would be one signing "Informed Consent Form" sounds a bit odd ...
