Overview
Argentina has a highly-developed translation industry. Argentine translators tend to be relatively well educated, many having earned relevant university degrees, and some have also done additional coursework in their areas of expertise. A combination of factors including a reputation for quality, a brand of Spanish that "travels" well, and in some cases pricing that is competitive in international markets, has led to substantial use of Argentine translators by international firms.
Argentinean translators have inherited the tradition of extending bridges between cultures, a gift received from the culture and work of countless immigrants that came to the country from all over the world.
Many professional associations regulate the segment of public translation and local clients. One notable association is the Buenos Aires Translators Association, Colegio de Traductores Públicos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, which operates a system of "sworn" translators, and promotes the profession, with more than seven thousand registered translators.
The ProZian community in Argentina is one of the largest and most active. Many events such as powwows and conferences have been organized in the country since 2001, in cities including Buenos Aires, La Plata, Córdoba and Rosario.
In line with the relevancy of translation and the community in this country, the largest ProZ.com office in the world is located in La Plata, Argentina.
