agree Tim Kynerd : "Dead man control" is the term used on the New York subway, for instance.

Dead man's handle / automatic acceleration control / automatic stop

Trains and similar = dead man's handle
A good example comes from the glossary of the accident report on the Badminton train crash in 2006 (a British government report), viz.
"Driver’s safety device - A system that halts the locomotive or train if the driver ceases to respond. Previously commonly known as a Dead Man’s Handle, most examples are pedals that must be pressed in response to an audible reminder."
It also turns up on http://www.railway-technical.com/brake1.shtml, a killer page of train brake terms, if that's what's needed.

Lifts (elevators) = "automatic acceleration control", or just "acceleration control", invented by whatsisface Sprague, which cuts in if it senses the lift accelerating (downwards...). I've just finished translating an article on the history of lifts, so it's fresh in my mind!

Blinds = automatic stop

Best wishes, Charlotte
Note from asker:
Perfect!! I think I did this wrong Charlotte. First time on ProZ and I graded the others and selected them by accident. I wanted to give yours the 4 and it kicked me out. Thanks again!!
