Norwegian term

freske fraspark

Norwegian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature
This is the title of one of Kjell Aukrust's wonderful stories. I know what it means, especially in reference to the situation in the story. What I need to find is a short, catchy title in English.

Hilde Granlund Sep 22, 2011:
Good luck :-) Is all I can say. I completely agree with Hans. I think it will be just about impossible to find a translation that covers this entirely and still is a short and catchy title.
Hans Wang Sep 21, 2011:
double baked and farm fresh Part of the problem you are running into is that the terms that Aukrust used can be interpreted in more than one way and that the irony of the sentence "dobbeltsats og freske fraspark" is difficult to get across into English.

fresh strides

I think this should cover it - but maybe something more idiomatic and sports-related would be even better.

or maybe: feisty leaps

The whole expression could be: Fumbling feet and feisty leaps

Or: stale bread and fresh strides

Again: not 100% satisfactory as neither is an idiomatic expression

still kicking

Just another suggestion.

If food is fresh, particularly meat you can say it's "still kicking" or if something isn't dead yet you can say it's "still kicking"

neutral Hilde Granlund : THis has nothing to do with food
