Bonjour,

A plusieurs reprises dans le cahier des charges il est fait référence à la passation du marché des travaux. Cependant, le contrat inclut la DET (Direction de l'execution des contrats de travaux).

J'ai du mal à établir si le concours concerne les travaux ou seulement l'étude. Si il y a passation...?

Est-ce que quelqu'un aurait plus d'expérience que moi dans le domaine et pourrait m'expliquer....?

Tony M Sep 27, 2013: CONTEXT As SafeTex has pointed out, the term is used in different ways in different contexts; I think it would be very helpful here if you were first to tell us the originating country, and also, gives us examples of the sentences in FR where this is used, so we can see exactly how it is being used. In particular, it can refer globally to the whole process of awarding contracts, from start to finish, (as per SafeTex's answer, certainly correct in some contexts) OR the specific moment when a specific contract is concluded. The term required in EN is likely to be different between these two extremes.

philgoddard Sep 24, 2013: Hi Marion It means signing the contracts for the work, but we have no way of knowing what "work" refers to. I would have thought that if they meant "études" they would say "études", but you may know better because you have the document in front of you.

As Phil says, whether or not the 'travaux' means literally the building work at the end of the process, or the work involved in carrying out the études first, is not clear from the little context you have given us. By the way, 'étude' doesn't actually appear anywhere in your given text, which makes it harder to see quite what you are getting at?

	It very often IS this sense, but only more context would make it possible to decide. / Your definition in fact CONFIRMS my suggestion: "action de passer qq chose ; action de conclure un acte juridique". Real usage is a little wider in scope.

Tony M's answer is fine but as Daryo says, one can only really speak of 'award' is the job has been given out (awarded)

Therefore, you often see the term "procurement of works" or "for the awarding of" ("to be awarded" rather than "already awarded")
