Waqf in English is endowment. In its most basic form a sort of a gift (usually land or property) whereby the beneficiary may benefit from its revenue, but cannot sell the principal. For example, one gives a religious institution a plot of land to use, the institution can use it, generate revenue out of it, but cannot dispose of it by giving it away or selling it.

This is an infinite transfer of all or part of an estate for religious endowment, which cannot be alienated for any other form of ownership, or sold or whatever transfer that would change the nature of the endowment.
