I'm a beginner when it comes to CAT tools, and I'm trying to get started with OmegaT. I apologise in advance if this question is too amateur or I'm not able to express myself clearly.
The thing is, I'm going to translate a type of document I've translated before, it's a standard form and the only thing that changes are the personal details of the individual in question. I had translated that document with OmegaT, I'm not sure what I did wrong but if I go to the relevant folder there is nothing in "glossary" or "tm", or anything like that, just the original and translated documents,
If you did use OmegaT, you can find a translation memory either at the root of the project (in 3 different flavours) and in the /omegat folder, named project_save.tmx.
nor can I open the project on OmegaT.
What happens if you try?
It seems to me that I might have created the translated version of the document, but not saved the actual project.
In OmegaT, it's not possible to translate without creating a translation memory.
Anyhow, since I'm now going to translate a very similar document, I'd like to know if there's any way I can combine those other 2 documents (the original one and the translated version) so I can translate this new document and have all the matching parts of the text translated automatically.
That's called an alignment. You can do it with OmegaT 4 (Tools > Align Files).
