| | peter zalupsky Long experience and dedication Slovakia Native in Slovak , Czech Freelancer | Bio: Presentation:
In 1972 I graduated from the (then) Slovak Institute of Technology in Bratislava, majoring in organic chemistry. My career as organic chemist continued to PhD in 1980. Back in Czechoslovakia after two years in Japan (Sendai, Tohoku University, 1978-1980) ...I became a staff member of the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Slovak Technical University, now renamed to Slovak University of Technology. Quite naturally then my translation and proofreading activities concentrated at first in the fields related to organic (pharmaceutical) chemistry, although my reading covered (in German, English and Russian) much wider range of topics for I literally grew up amongst foreign language documents – my father was a translator and journalist.
Qualifications:
PhD in organic Chemistry – Slovak University of Technology 1980
Professional experience:
Translation of two books from Slovak to English, commissioned by Ellis Horwood, namely:
Phytomass – a raw material for chemistry and biotechnology by Anton Blazej and Martin Kosik, ISBN 80-224-0364-4 (1993)
Natural and Synthetic Sweet Substances, by Alzbeta Krutosikova and Michal Uher, ISBN 80-224-0244-3, (1992) and also the
Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds, Studies in Organic Chemistry 35, Elsevier 1988, edited by J. Kovac and P. Zalupsky.
In addition to the above books I have been engaged in innumerable translations and proofreading of articles and documents in chemistry related fields (food chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry), in social sciences, health care, medical texts (clinical biochemistry, hospital equipment), computer-related topics, technologies generally, medical equipment, home appliances, car manuals.
Member of the Slovak Association of Technical Translators.
