Bio
I am a native Italian and have lived in the USA for many years.

Presently, I am a full-time freelance translator and editor
(English > Italian and Italian > English)
Previously, while employed as an engineer, I did translations on a
part-time basis.

Education

In Italy: Earned the "Scientific Maturity" diploma.
Attended the first two years of the engineering
curriculum at the University of Catania.

In the USA: Was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Mechanical
Engineering (BME) by the New York University (NYU)

Passed the prescribed state exams, thus acquiring
the title of Professional Engineer (P.E.) and receiving
a license to practice Professional Engineering.

Engineering Experience

Employed for many years as a mechanical engineeer. Gained valuable experience in the design of ships and in several branches of mechanical engineering. Acquired a good understanding of naval architecture, electrical engineering and electronics.

Experience as a translator

A total of 15 years of freelance translations and editing activities (earlier on a part-time basis and full-time in the last five years). I have translated or edited:

Technical Material (manuals, test reports, safety data sheets, specifications, published technical papers. code for computer programs, etc.).

Legal Documents (contracts, testaments, affidavits, divorce and other sentences, requests for extradition and for jury trials, and a variety of certificates and diplomas).

Business Material (marketing brochures, insurance policies, warranties, offers of employment, business letters, etc.).

Medical Documents (patients hospital record, results of examinations and tests, correspondence).

My engineering background would be very useful in connetion with the translation or editing of documents related to
vibrations, machinery, fluid systems, mechanical power transmission devices and HVAC (Heat, ventilation and air conditioning) systems.

The equipment with which I am familiar includes elevators, cranes and hoists, internal combustion engines, motors (electrical, hydraulic and compressed air) heat exchangers, pumps, accumulators, fans compressors and condensers, steering gears, roll stabilizers, gear reducers, capstans, and anchor windlasses.
Also miscellaneous components such as brakes, valves, switches, relays, transformers, solenoids, etc.
