Translation - English With the urgent need in recent years to help prevent global warming by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, highly fuel-efficient diesel engines have attracted attention away from gasoline engines for use in automobiles. The diesel engine's problems with combustion noise and with black smoke and nitrogen oxides in the exhaust are being corrected by optimizing and supercharging the fuel pressure, injection rate, and injection timing with the common rail system. On the other hand, these new technologies worsen the conditions for lubrication around the pistons.

When the post-injection for diesel particulate filter regeneration comes immediately after the main injection, piston lubrication conditions are worsened by an increase in cylinder temperature in the vicinity of top dead center; with late-cycle post-injection, piston lubrication conditions are worsened when the spray sticks to the cylinder. Furthermore, it is clear that when supercharging with multi-stage injections, the early-cycle pilot injection and late-cycle post-injection made piston lubrication conditions even worse. Accordingly, it is clear that when using multi-stage injections, the injection must be timed so that fuel does not stick to the cylinder.
