Oct 16, 2020 (posted viaProZ.com): I have just finished the translation of an abstract (summary of a clinical publication) from English into standard French.
Apart from this, I parallely work on the translation and co-creation of documents for an advertising campaign (launch campaign of a medical device), from German into Swiss-French and on the translation of quality control reports (medical laboratory), from French into Swiss-Italian.
I also continue the drafting of a novel (in Italian).

Source text - English - Assessing liver disease stage is important when treating HCV as it will impact the choice of regimen and duration of treatment.
- There are some common physical signs of liver disease /cirrhosis which you may notice during patients’ physical examinations. What’s the correct name for each of the following symptoms?
- Assessing for and diagnosing advanced liver disease is important, as ongoing assessment for hepatic decompensation and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is required in people with severe fibrosis or cirrhosis. It also impacts treatment choices for HCV.
- Patients with cirrhosis should be referred to a specialist for treatment or further investigation.
- All patients with chronic HCV and cirrhosis should be encouraged to consider the benefits of HCV antiviral therapy as this may limit the progression of liver disease and regress liver damage.
- Once HCV has been diagnosed, the degree of liver fibrosis needs to be determined, as accurate staging will determine appropriate treatment and monitoring. Current HCV treatments are suitable for all patients, irrespective of the degree of fibrosis.

- La maladie hépatique/ une cirrhose se manifeste par des signes physiques courants, que vous pouvez observer lors de l'examen physique. Quel est le nom correct pour chacun des symptômes suivants ?
- Il est important d’évaluer et de diagnostiquer correctement une maladie hépatique avancée, car une surveillance continue de la décompensation hépatique et du carcinome hépatocellulaire (CHC) est nécessaire chez les personnes atteintes d'une fibrose sévère ou d'une cirrhose. Cela affecte également le choix du traitement du VHC.
- Les patients qui présentent une cirrhose doivent être adressés à un spécialiste pour un traitement ou pour des examens plus approfondis.
- Tous les patients atteints de VHC chronique et présentant une cirrhose devraient être sensibilisés aux bénéfices d’un traitement antiviral contre le VHC, car ce traitement peut limiter la progression de la maladie hépatique et réduire les lésions hépatiques.

Source text - German Das Blutbild stammt von einem 84-jährigen Mann mit einer Leukozytose von 23,9 G/L, einer milden Anämie (Hb 101 g/L), einem grenzwertig hypochromen roten Blutbild (MCH 24,4 pg) und einer normalen Thrombozytenzahl. Der zentrale Befund im Ausstrich ist die ausgeprägte Ausschwemmung von Blasten. Diese sind gross, mit grossen, entrundeten Kernen, feinem Kernchromatin, mehreren grossen Nucleolen und einem mittelbasophilen, nur fraglich granulierten Zytoplasmasaum. Der geübte Untersucher erkennt myeloische Blasten, sodass zusammen mit der Blastenzahl im Blut (ca. 15 G/L) eine akute myeloische Leukämie postuliert werden kann. Als weitere zytologische Veränderungen findet sich eine Hypogranulation der neutrophilen Granulozyten, eine Anisozytose der Thrombozyten sowie ein buntes rotes Blutbild mit Anisozytose und Poikilozytose. Vor allem die Hypogranulation der Granulozyten lässt an Dysplasien im Sinne eines vorbestehenden myelodysplastischen Syndroms denken. Um diesbezüglich eine sichere Aussage machen zu können, ist aber zwingend eine Knochenmarkuntersuchung notwendig.
Translation - Italian Si tratta dello striscio di un uomo di 84 anni che presenta una leucocitosi di 23,9 G/L, una debole anemia (Hb 101 g/L), un quadro rosso leggermente ipocromico (MCH 24,4 pg) e un valore di trombociti nella norma. L’aspetto più marcato di questo referto è l’imponente presenza di blasti di taglia maggiore. Essi possiedono un nucleo deformato, una cromatina fine, numerosi nucleoli prominenti e un citoplasma sottile moderatamente basofilo e finemente granulato. L’osservatore esperto saprà riconoscere in queste cellule il carattere dei blasti mieloidi e ciò, assieme al valore dei blasti nel sangue periferico (ca. 15 G/L), consentirà di ipotizzare una leucemia mieloide acuta. Le altre variazioni citologiche rilevabili sono: un’ipogranulazione dei neutrofili, un’anisocitosi dei trombociti e un quadro rosso vivace, caratterizzato da anisocitosi e da poichilocitosi. Di tutte queste anomalie, quella che porta a considerare la presenza di una displasia nel senso di una sindrome mielodisplastica preesistente è l’ipogranulazione dei granulociti neutrofili. Per poter sostenere questa tesi, occorre imperativamente eseguire un esame osteomidollare.

Die (Firma) kann das XXX-Gerät frühestens nach einer Mietdauer von zwölf Monaten an den Patienten verkaufen. So lautet der Wortlaut der Vereinbarung zwischen den Krankenkassen und der (Firma) (vgl. Art. 13, Abs. 1 des Gerätevertrages, S. 15). Der Kauf erfolgt zum Restwert des Gerätes, nach vorgängiger Kostengutsprache des Versicherers und unter Einhaltung gewisser Voraussetzungen (z.B. gute Compliance, Fortsetzung der Therapie über mehrere Jahre; vgl. dazu das entsprechende Merkblatt, Punkt 1).
Wichtig ist jedoch, dass die (Firma) den Patienten anlässlich der Jahreskontrollen über die Möglichkeit der Miet- und Kaufoption informiert (vgl. Art. 18, Abs. 3 des Gerätevertrages, S. 9). Damit der Patient eine bewusste Entscheidung treffen kann, muss er in Kenntnis aller Vor- und Nachteile sein. Insbesondere muss der Kunde wissen, worin die Vorteile des Mietmodells liegen (vgl. das entsprechende Merkblatt).
Vorteile der Miete
Die monatliche Mietgebühr beinhaltet neben der Amortisation des Gerätes, das jährliche Verbrauchsmaterial, ohne das die Therapie nicht durchgeführt werden kann, die jährlichen Überprüfungs-, Einstellungs- und Wartungskosten sowie Reparaturkosten bei Schäden und die Kosten für die Bereitstellung eines neuen Gerätes. Insbesondere bei Therapieproblemen sowie überdurchschnittlichem Bezug von Verbrauchsmaterial, ist der Patient in der Regel mit dem Mietmodell im Vorteil.

La (ditta) è autorizzata a vendere l’apparecchio XXX ai pazienti dopo un periodo di noleggio di almeno dodici mesi. Così recita la convenzione sottoscritta tra le casse malati e la (ditta) (cf. art. 13, paragrafo 1 della convenzione relativa alla vendita di apparecchi, p. 15). L’acquisto si effettua sulla base del valore residuo dell’apparecchio, secondo previa garanzia di presa a carico da parte dell’ente assicurativo e nel rispetto di determinate condizioni (ad es. una buona compliance del paziente o una terapia protratta su più anni; cf. in merito il relativo foglio informativo, punto 1).
Rimane tuttavia importante che la (ditta), in occasione delle visite di controllo annuali, informi il paziente della possibilità di optare tra il noleggio e l’acquisto dell’apparecchio (cf. art. 18, paragrafo 3 della convenzione relativa alla vendita di apparecchi, p. 9). Per una decisione consapevole, il paziente deve venir informato dei vantaggi e degli svantaggi di entrambe le opzioni. In particolare, il cliente deve poter conoscere i vantaggi di un noleggio. (cf. il relativo foglio informativo).
Vantaggi del noleggio
Il canone mensile di noleggio, oltre ai costi di ammortamento dell’apparecchio, comprende il materiale di consumo necessario alla terapia, le spese annuali di controllo, di regolazione e di manutenzione (compresi gli eventuali costi di riparazione in caso di danni) e la tassa di messa in esercizio di un nuovo apparecchio. In caso di problemi, soprattutto di ordine terapeutico, oppure nell’eventualità di un utilizzo di materiale di consumo superiore alla media, il noleggio si rivela in genere un’opzione più vantaggiosa.
