Ach, elke rode, lonkende papaver
is dochter van een troosteloos kadaver.
Translation - Dutch Now flourish hope and garden, now expand
The fragrant roses, touched by Venus’ hand
Embroidering the grass with brightest fire
and sparking every rosebud with desire.
Oh, how this forest teems with blooming flowers!
How flax and daisy thrive on Cupid’s powers!
They burst with joyful silence from the soil
Besotted with love’s aromatic oil.
And yet, this paradise has once gone stale
It’s here where poor Adonis’ blood was shed
Where God nor man could hear his desperate cries
It’s here where death, though lovely, ever hides.
Ah! Every poppy, gleaming now with mirth
Is daughter to a corpse in deepest earth.

Bio
Born and bred Dutchie, I fell in love with the English language at age 8 and with the Swedish language at 18. After getting a bachelor's degree in Scandinavian Languages, I proceeded to get my master's degree in Translation Studies at the University of Amsterdam.
My four years as a copywriter at a marketing agency, combined with my love of reading and writing and my experience as a subtitler, have made me into a well-rounded translator of all kinds of texts. I particularly enjoy creative texts, such as literature, tv series and blogs.
