Role Play Practical Exercise
Role Play
• In advance, the facilitator will have identified three ‘actors’. They are each given a card with scenario 3. They practice acting it out during a break. (Handout #17)
“A woman arrives at an IDP Camp and tries to get shelter and non-food items (NFI). She is sent to the warehouse to collect her NFI. The man in charge of the warehouse tells her that she is not eligible for non-food items. He tells the woman the camp rules say she must stay in the camp for two weeks before being given NFI. The man goes on to say that he might be able to help her and she should come back to the warehouse later that evening. Another NGO worker observes the conversation’.
• The ‘actors’ stage the role-play.
• The facilitator facilitates a discussion about what has happened – what should have happened – what should happen next. Are there any risks for exploitation in this scenario? Discuss these risks. Could anything be done to reduce the risks in this scenario? Does the NGO worker who observed the conversation have any responsibility in a situation like this?
• If the facilitator is confident at facilitation this sort of activity, s/he can encourage another member of the group to take the place of one of the characters and the whole scene can be re-acted showing a different way of behaving or of adjusting systems so that SEA is less likely to occur.

ستصل إمرأة إلى مخيم النازحين وتحاول أن تحصل على ملجأ ومواد غير غذائية (NFI). ثم يتم إرسالها إلى المستودع كي تحضرمواد غير غذائية لها. وبعد ذلك يخبرها الرجل المسؤول عن المستودع بأنها غير مستحقة للحصول على مواد غير غذائية . ثم يخبر المرأة بأن نظام المخيم يقول ينبغي عليها أن تبقى في المخيم لمدة أسبوعين قبل أن يتم إعطائها المواد غير غذائية . ثم يمضي رجل آخر معها ويقول لها بأنه قد يكون قادراً على مساعدتها وينبغي عليها أن تعود إلى المستودع في وقت لاحق من ذلك المساء. ويراقب أحد العاملين في( NGO )المنظمة غير حكومية ذلك الحوار

The rainy season is here! Be alert! Exercise caution! Stay safe!
IN CASE OF FLOOD Go to higher ground
1. Keep children indoors when it is raining!
2. Do not allow children to play in flooded areas!
3. Conduct regular headcounts of your family members!
4. Maintain appropriate hygiene practices to prevent disease!
5. Do not drink flood water. It can make you sick!
6. Watch your step! Flood waters often hide sharp and dangerous debris like glass or metal!
7. Do not pick up strange objects from flooded areas! They might be dangerous!
8. Stay off of flooded bridges! Avoid crossing flooded streams or any pool of water!
9. Evacuate when told to do so.
10. Return home only when told it is safe!

في حال حُدوث فيضان انتقل إلى أرض أَعلى ارتفعاً

2- لا تسمح للأطفال با للعب في المناطق المغمورة بالمياه!
3- قم بعملية إحصاءات دورية لأفراد أسرتك!
4- حافظ على التدريب الصحي المناسب للوقاية من الأمراض!
5- لا تشرب مياه الفيضان ، ستصبح مريضاً!
6- تنبه اثناء سيرك! مياه الفيضانات غالباً ما تخفي بقايا الحطام الحادة و الخطيرة مثل الزجاج أو المعدن!

Dental attrition is a type of tooth wear caused by tooth-to-tooth contact, resulting in loss of tooth tissue, usually starting at the incisal or occlusal surfaces. Tooth wear is a physiological process and is commonly seen as a normal part of aging. Advanced and excessive wear and tooth surface loss can be as pathological in nature, requiring intervention by a dental practitioner. The pathological wear of the tooth surface can be caused by bruxism, which is clenching and grinding of the teeth. If the attrition is severe, the enamel can be completely worn away leaving underlying dentin exposed, resulting in an increased risk of dental caries and dentin hypersensitivity. It is best to identify pathological attrition at an early stage to prevent unnecessary loss of tooth structure as enamel does not regenerate.

الإنسحال السني هو نوع من اهتراء الأسنان ويحدث ذلك بسب احتكاك سطحين متقابلين من الأسنان ، مؤدياً إلى فقدان أنسجة الأسنان، والذي يبدأ من سطوح القاطع أوالإطباقي من السن عادةً.
اما اهتراء الأسنان هي عملية فسيولوجية وينظر إليها عادة على أنها كجزء طبيعي تحدث مع التقدم بالسن . فأن الاهتراء الزائد و المتطور قد يؤدي الى فقدان سطح الأسنان وهذه حالات مرضية طبيعية ، وفي هذه الحالة يتطلب الى إجراء تدخل أخصائي طب الأسنان. و يمكن أن يحدث الاهتراء المرضي لسطح الأسنان صرير الأسنان ، بسبب انطباق وطحن الأسنان.فإذا كان الاهتراء شديدًا ، فيمكن ارتداء المينا عاجًا للحفاظ على الأسنان تماماً في حال ما إذا تعرضت لاي ضرر خارجي ،ِمماقد يؤدي إلى زيادة خطرالتسوس السني وزيادة حساسية العاج. فأنه من الأفضل تشخيص الاهتراء المرضي في المرحلة المبكرة من العمر تفادياً من اي فقدان غير ضروري لبنية الأسنان كما أن مينا الأسنان لا يمكن ان يعوض . |

If I had to summarize Translators without Borders’ learning from the Cyclone Idai response, it would be: language support can be a significant tool for effective, accountable humanitarian action. But only if there is a more comprehensive approach to community engagement from the outset. It is one thing to read a statistic about the linguistic diversity and low literacy levels of the population in Mozambique. It is another thing entirely to sit down with a group of Cyclone Idai survivors in Beira and hear it in person. To learn from one person after another that they are unable to communicate with aid workers in a language they understand.
This is what TWB’s assessment team and I heard a few weeks ago when we conducted a rapid language assessment in four temporary accommodation sites. We found that many people do not understand the main languages and formats used by humanitarian organizations. They voiced frustration about how difficult it is to access information about available assistance. After one of southern Africa’s worst disasters in decades, we learned that much humanitarian communication is failing because it is in the wrong language.
Today, in the comfort of my home, I’m thinking about what this means. In a way, it shows that humanitarians still fall short of meeting their commitments to “leave no one behind” and “put people at the center.” This is probably not news to many. But it leaves me torn when thinking about the impact of TWB’s language support services in the Cyclone Idai response.

فمن جانبه، تم الجلوس مع مجموعة من الناجين من إعصار إيداي في منطقة بيرا والسماع عن ذلك منهم شخصياً بالتفصيل. فمن ناحية التعلم يختلف من شخص لآخر وايضاً غير قادرين على التواصل مع موظفين الإغاثة باللغة التي يفهمونها. هذا ما سمعناه أنا وفريق التقييم من مترجمين بلاحدود قبل بضعة أسابيع عندما قمنا بأجراء تقييم لغوي سريع في أربعة مراكز للإيواء المؤقتة .فوجدنا أن الكثير من الناس لا يفهمون اللغات و بنيتها الرئيسية التي تستخدمها المنظمات الإنسانية وأعربوا عن إحباطهم إزاء صعوبة الحصول على المعلومات المتعلقة بالمساعدة المتاحة لهم . وبعد واحدة من أسوأ الكوارث في جنوب إفريقيا منذ عقود، علمنا من ذلك أن الكثير من التواصل الإنساني بات بالفشل بسبب مشكلة اللغة .
اليوم، وفي قعر منزلي، اعتقد فيما يعنيه هذا . إن الوسيلة، تتبين من ذلك فالعاملون في مجال حقوق الإنسان لا يزالون مقصرين بالوفاء بالتزاماتهم حول ذلك فلذلك يتوجب عليهم ب "عدم ترك أحدا وراءهم" او "وضع الناس في المركز ." لكن ربما هذا ليس أخبار الكثيرين منهم. لكنه جعلني في حيرة من أمري عندما أفكر بشأن تأثير دور خدمات الدعم اللغوي التي يقدمونها مترجمون بلا حدود استجابة ًحول إعصار إيداي.
