Bio

I have been working as freelance translator and
interpreter from English to Italian (and vice- versa) since 1997 for a number
of Italian and international translation agencies - too many to list here - and
still work with companies such as Languagewire A/S, CBG Konsult, COMTEC and SDL
Italy. It all started when my employer (a maritime agency) went bankrupt in
1997. I was the company translator and interpreter for its foreign operations
and all of a sudden, I found myself unemployed. While looking for a job, I
found myself talking with a friend living in Milan about a company he knew was
looking for someone to transcribe and translate a documentary text. I got in
touch with them, got the job and really liked it... I realized then that this
could become a career. 14 years later, here I am, still enjoying my job. I love
the freedom it allows and the challenge of taking my own decisions to further
my career and grow as a professional.

Thanks to family ties in England, I am
perfectly bilingual. As a child, I used to go there for my summer holidays
every year, the first time when I was 3 years old and the last when I was 12. I
actually can't remember NOT speaking English.
Learning it so young enabled me to sound and speak like an Englishman; in fact,
in any English-speaking country I visit I am mistaken for a Briton, as I have
no trace of Italian accent and even boast what in England is usually referred
to as a slight "Northern twang" (which usually becomes stronger after
a visit to my relatives "up North"). Besides having learned English
at such a tender age, I also studied it in private English schools, and I
passed my Cambridge Proficiency exam at 27 (Grade B). Much later, I became a
qualified member of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (UK) - in
2004 - and of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (UK) - in 2007 (after
passing my IoL Diploma in Translation exam). After years as a professional, I
attended the MA Interpreting course at the London Metropolitan University for
the Academic year 2007/2008, and I was awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in
Interpreting with Merit in December 2008.

I love my job, both as translator and
interpreter: the former is more relaxed and enables me to work at home and
organize my working day as I like (but always meeting the deadlines), the
latter is more exciting and dynamic and allows me to travel and meet new
people. But when I need a break and want to relax, music is my haven. I'm a
pianist and a bass guitarist, and I play in three bands. Art is one of my main
interests, and besides music I really love literature, cinema and theatre.
