Bio

I’m a native
French translator with two fields of specialization: science and international relations/institutions.

In both fields, I'm very thorough and meticulous. Thanks to my higher-than-average mastery of the French language (I also have a master's degree in French) and my career in press (I still work as a freelance editor and proofreader, see my CV), my texts are grammatically and typographically impeccable.

I always provide not only an accurate translation, but a well-written and easy-to-read French text. I work on SDL Trados Studio 2019.

SCIENCE (5-year
experience): see
http://www.zoedeback.com/science/

Thanks to my academic
background (as a former biology/geology teacher, with a master's degree in
Science), I have developed an activity as a science translator. My
scientific knowledge makes it very easy for me to grasp technical notions.

In 2017-18 for example, I
have translated:

·      Argos system publications (articles on satellite
telemetry & wildlife tracking): 4200 words

·      Academic articles on Dolphin biology: 40000
words

·      Booklet of a National Park (foresting &
wildlife): 4600 words

·      Environmental reports for the Inter-American
Development Bank (IDB): 7000 words

·      Handbooks & documents on medical devices
(Sotera Health, Nonin Medical, Sanosphera), food industry (3M, Tesco Food)

·      Handbooks & documents on various machines
(Sieck, Helios Ventilatoren), products (BASF, Glasurit, Tumi), industrial
processes (General Mills)

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS (10-year experience): see http://www.zoedeback.com/ + HRW's recommendation below

What gave me a particular
expertise in the field was my 5-year experience as a journalist and
reporter in North Africa. I now translate for several NGOs and international agencies.

Between Jan-Oct. 2018, for example, I have translated:

  •  140 000 words for HRW (Human
Rights Watch): pressers, reports, letters, subtitles
  • 38 000 words for the US
Department of State/White House (through an agency): statements, speeches, blog entries, internal docs
  • 30 000 words for IRRI
    (International Refugee Rights Initiative): reports
  • 18 000 words for MetroUN (a
    United Nations magazine): articles

PS: My pdf resume (including picture and personal date) has been
stolen by scammers, who send it everywhere under the forged name "Rose Deback" (s
ee the fake CV below). Please don't associate my work to any unpleasant encounter you may have had with
them!
