Translation - English Ants allow scientists to watch evolution in action thanks to the way they live and reproduce. In one colony there are thousands of siblings, as each queen produces offspring constantly. Fertilised eggs develop into females, the workers; while male ants, or drones, hatch from unfertilised eggs. The latter are haploid, which means each gene occurs in them only once, as was the case in their egg cell. It is because of this simplified set of chromosomes that the males are subject to an enormous amount of selective pressure. If their genes are not compatible, they cannot compensate for them with their homologous chromosomes like the females can. This ‘male factor’, together with the large number of offspring, leads to an accelerated evolutionary process.
An enormously high and constant rate of reproduction, paired with the drones’ haploid sets of genes, which restrict genetic variation, is precisely what makes evolutionary experiments in ants easy to identify. The factors that shape ant species can be seen in a type of time lapse. Hardly any other kind of animal offers the opportunity to observe this process in such a way because most have less offspring and their generations last weeks or even years.

Translation - English The atmospheres of the Earth and Titan, one of Saturn’s satellites, appear to be closely related to the last shower of hydrated asteroids and comets to enter the Solar System. This era in the history of the Solar System dates back to approximately 3.9 billion years ago; it is called the Late Heavy Bombardment, as it involved the arrival of a large amount of objects rich in water and organic matter to the Earth-Moon system. This process was a consequence of planetary motion that led to Jupiter’s and Saturn’s migration and also triggered a gravitational force over various outer regions full of icy bodies. The physical and chemical processes resulting from the great forces involved in this migration led to a phase when the rocky planets were enriched with volatile compounds. These rocky planets were then hurled towards the inner Solar System, where the Earth is.
Bachelor's degree - University of Manchester
Years of experience: 5. Registered at ProZ.com: May 2015.
I translate from German, Spanish and Catalan into English and focus on the following areas:
Popular science & general science
Strong preference for entertaining and informative natural science texts featured in the media but will happily accept requests for more formal scientific texts.
Magazine & newspaper articles
Marketing & general business
Highly experienced in translating a range of B2C marketing materials for online retailers. Will also accept requests for the translation of B2B communication.
Sportswear & sports equipment
Background in translation of texts relating to sportswear and equipment.
Additional areas of experience include: food & drink, watersports (esp. paddle board & kayaking), music (esp. guitar), travel & tourism.
I am able to vary the level of localisation I use while writing, ranging from neutral, international 'lingua franca' English for non-native speakers to fully localised English for British readers. Also experienced in adapting the register of my texts from informal, for blogs or newsletters, formal, for business pitches and press releases, to frozen, for contracts and terms & conditions.
I am a British English native speaker who was born and raised a trilingual in Spanish, Catalan and English in the beautiful and multicultural hotspot that is Mallorca.
Having dual Spanish and English nationality, I speak all three languages fluently and to a high level, but I moved to the UK in 2005 to complete secondary and higher education here, so English has now become my strongest language.
As a child I had strong connections with Germany and decided to learn the language at university, while also consolidating my knowledge of Spanish and Catalan and refining my English writing and research skills - both of which are particularly useful in guaranteeing top quality translation work.
During my year abroad I immersed myself completely in all three cultures by working and living with Germans, Spaniards and Catalans in their respective countries/regions, and I also made some friends for life who I often approach with vocabulary questions for my work. I then returned to Germany after graduation to take up a post offered by the employer who had taken me on as an intern during my year abroad. This former employer has gone on to become my most loyal client and my main source of translation work today, though I still welcome short-term projects to complete in my spare time for some extra fun and variation.
My rates vary from project to project depending on the volume, level of urgency and complexity of the task. I am willing to charge per project, per day, per hour or per source word/line - whichever is most convenient for the client. You will receive a firm quote before I begin the project. I accept € and $ but have a preference for £ sent via PayPal or bank transfer.
Currently I have limited availability. I can only take on short projects with deadlines of more than 12 hours.
If you find me interesting and would like to work with me, please get in touch!
