I'm a freelance Italian to English translator. My specialisms include the following text types:
>> Neuroscience and related disciplines (my MA thesis was on neuroscience translation), general medical, health-related and health information texts
>> Travel and tourism sector, history (ancient and modern), psychology, philosophy, museums, art and culture, current affairs, public sector.
I'm a native English speaker, and a member of ITI, ITI MedNet, and the ITI Italian, and Art & Tourism Networks.
I have an MA (with Merit) in Italian to English translation (University of Bristol), BA in Italian (2:1) (University of London), BA in Latin with Ancient Greek (2:1) (University of Leicester), and a Diploma in Human Resources Management. Since I only translate from Italian to English I have a high level of language proficiency and cultural awareness, enhanced by spending a lot of time in Italy. I work as a volunteer medical administrator in a hospice for a few hours each week, using a variety of medical terminology. I previously worked for the NHS in health service administration and human resources, with an earlier career in the Department of Employment as an advisor.
My work is accurate and I take time to assess the correct register in order to produce the best possible result for a client, always in accordance with their requirements; I am always happy to discuss these in detail. I follow the EC English Style Guide (or any other preferred style guide) and take pride in carefully editing and proofreading the finished translation. My CAT tool is SDL Trados Studio 2019. I consider CPD to be extremely important, attend training courses that are appropriate to my interests and skills, and complete ITI's recommended CPD hours each year. To maintain and hone my language skills I regularly meet with a native Italian speaker and IT< >EN translator. I also carry out a lot of research into my specific areas of interest and specialisation.
