Source text - English The FCC process operates in a dynamic heat balance with hot regenerated catalyst supplying the net heat demand required by the reaction system. Finely sized solid catalyst continuously circulates in a closed loop between the reaction system and the catalyst regeneration system. The feed and catalyst are intimately contacted in the riser reactor, in the proper ratio and with the proper residence time and temperature to achieve the desired level of conversion. The reaction products are disengaged from the spent catalyst using a patented riser/reaction termination device. The catalyst passes through a highly efficient, patented, spent catalyst stripper where any hydrocarbon product vapors entrained with the catalyst are removed and recovered. The regeneration system restores catalytic activity of the coke-laden spent catalyst by combustion with air. It also provides heat of reaction and heat of feed vaporization by returning hot, freshly regenerated catalyst back to the reaction system.
Hot regenerated catalyst flows to the base of the reaction system riser where it is contacted with feed supplied through feed injectors. Vaporized feed and catalyst travel up the riser where catalytic reactions occur. The reacted vapour is rapidly disengaged from the spent catalyst in direct-coupled riser cyclones and routed directly to product fractionation, minimizing time for non-selective, post-riser cracking. Reactor vapors are quenched and fractioned in the product recovery system, which yields dry gas, LPG, naphtha, and middle distillate products.
The spent catalyst separated by the riser cyclones is degassed of most of the reaction vapour while flowing via diplegs into the catalyst stripper. In the stripper, hydrocarbons are effectively removed from the catalyst by efficient contacting with steam.
The spent catalyst is transported from the stripper into the regenerator using a proprietary square-bend transfer line. The hydrogen-rich portion of the coke deposits reacts with the lift air with at a lower combustion temperature relative to the regenerator dense bed temperature which reduces catalyst hydrothermal deactivation. The carbon-rich portion of coke deposits is burned off in the turbulent dense phase of the regenerator. Regeneration flue gases are first routed through cyclones to minimize catalyst losses and then sent to energy recovery and environmental treatment before being ejected from the stack.
Hot regenerated catalyst overflows into an external catalyst hopper where it is aerated to the proper density before flowing back to the base of the riser.

Source text - English We drive and test three new Accents so you can pick just one.
We’re nothing if not through. In assessing the 2012 Hyundai Accent, we choose to test not one, not two but three different variants: a hatchback with the manual transmission, a sedan with the autiomatic and to get the full picture, a hatch with the auto. Yes, we could have tested that fourth body-and-transmission permutation, but that would’ve been silly.
Before the results are laid out, here’s a rundown of the players. For 2012, the Accent hatchback goes from three to five doors. The sedan is now the lineup’s value leader, with a base price of US$ 13,205 for a manual. That base car wears the GLS badge (as do all sedans) and goes without air conditioning, power windows or mirrors, or even a radio- it has four speakers, but nothing to feed them music. No one’s buying that showroom-traffic model. Adding in those missing prices runs US$ 1750 (it’s called the Comfort package; we’d call it the “Bare Minimum” package), but the car still rides on 14-inch steel wheels. For $2750, you get the equipment plus an automatic transmission. Our automatic test vehicle was fully loaded, including the US$ 1300 Premium package: keyless entry, body-color door handles on the outside and chrome pulls on the inside, piano-black interior trim, nicer cloth seats, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, Bluetooth, cruise control, fog lights and 16-inch aluminium wheels. See? Thorough.
Hatchback models come in two grades: GS and SE. The GS US$15,355 for a manual and US$ 16,555 for the automatic-is equipped to a level similar to the GLS sedan with the Comfort package. We tested a pair of SE models, which include everything from the sedan with the Premium package, plus a rear spoiler, leather for the steering wheel and shift knob, and “sport tuned” steering. The SE starts at US$16,555 and a grand more gets you the automatic. All three test Accents were decadently optioned with an iPod cable (US$35) and carpeted floor mats (US$95).
The Strongest Accent
The 2012 Accent is powered by a direct-injected 1.6-liter four cylinder that makes 138 hp and 123lb-ft of torque. The manual and automatic transmissions both have six speeds. The stick has longish throws and is accompanied by a lifeless, long-travel clutch pedal; it’ll be easy for anyone to move but doesn’t so much as hint at the location of its friction point. Despite those demerits, the manual is much more fun to interact with, allowing the driver to get the most out of the little engine. The automatic car feels as if it were missing a few of its 138 horses.
That feeling was backed up at the test track, where the manual hatch hit 60 mph in 8.0 seconds, 1.9 quicker than the auto-equipped hatch and 1.6 better than the automatic sedan. The manual dominated in every acceleration test but top-gear, since our procedure leaves a manual in its highest gear whereas automatics are allowed to downshift as they see fit. And to seal the deal, the manual got drastically better observed fuel mileage: 33 mpg versus 26 for both automatic cars. All 2012 Accents have EPA ratings of 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.
It can be easily extrapolated that a sedan with the manual would be about as quick and efficient. But it wouldn’t look anywhere as nice or be able to fit as much cargo. Anyway, that covers our vote for transmission.

Para evaluar el Hyundai Accent 2012 decidimos probar no uno, ni dos sino tres modelos diferentes: un hatchback (con portón trasero) de transmisión manual, un sedán de transmisión automática y un hatchback, de transmisión automática. Y sí, también podríamos haber evaluado una cuarta alternativa, una permutación entre transmisión y carrocería, pero habría sido una tontería.
Antes de revelar los resultados les ofrecemos un resumen con algunas novedades sobre los distintos competidores. En el 2012 el hatchback Accent incorpora 5 puertas, 2 más que el modelo anterior. El sedán es el líder de los valores con un precio base de U$$ 13.205 por la versión manual. Este modelo base lleva la insignia GLS (como todos los sedán), pero no cuenta con aire acondicionado, ventanillas y espejos eléctricos ni tampoco con radio, sólo cuatro parlantes y ningún dispositivo para alimentarlos musicalmente. Nadie puede comprar este modelo adaptado para un salón de exposición. Incorporar estos adicionales cuesta U$$ 1.750 (se denomina el paquete Confort, nosotros lo llamamos el paquete Mínimo básico) aunque sigue rodando sobre llantas de acero de 14 pulgadas. Por U$$ 2.750 se consigue el paquete y la transmisión automática. El vehículo automático que evaluamos, un modelo full, incluye un paquete Premium de U$$ 1.300 con: apertura automática sin llave, manijas exteriores de las puertas del mismo color que la carrocería e interiores cromadas, acabado interior negro brillante, asientos de tela de diseño delicado, controles de audio ubicados en el volante, bluetooth, control crucero, faros antiniebla y llantas de aluminio de 16 pulgadas. Como se puede ver: a fondo.
Los modelos hatchback vienen en 2 versiones: GS y SE. El GS tiene un valor de U$$ 15.355 con transmisión manual y el modelo automático ronda los U$$ 16.555, equipado de manera similar al sedán GLS con el paquete Confort. Evaluamos también los modelos SE que incluyen todo lo que posee un sedán con el paquete Premium más: un alerón trasero, volante y agarre de palanca de cambios en cuero y una dirección asistida más deportiva. El SE arranca en U$$ 16.555 y bastante más se requiere para la versión automática. Los tres modelos Accent evaluados brindan la opción refinada de contar con un cable para iPod (U$$ 35) y alfombras (U$$ 95).
El Accent más poderoso
El Accent 2012 funciona con un motor de inyección directa de 4 cilindros de 1,6 litros que le brinda una fuerza de 138 CV y 16.9 kg/m de torque. Las transmisiones manual y automática tienen 6 cambios. La palanca ofrece cambios bastante largos y trabaja junto a un embrague que no muestra mucha vitalidad en viajes prolongados. Debería ser fácil moverla, pero no es tan así si hacemos alusión a la ubicación de su punto de fricción. A pesar de esta desventaja, la versión manual permite interactuar y el conductor puede exigir el pequeño motor al máximo. La versión automática parece haber perdido algo de la potencia generada por sus 138 CV.
Esta sensación la verificamos en el circuito de pruebas al comprobar que la versión manual del hatch alcanzó 100 Km./h en 8 segundos, 1.9 segundos más rápida que la versión automática y 1.6 segundos más veloz que la versión sedán automática. La versión manual mostró su dominio en cada prueba de aceleración y en especial, con el cambio más alto ya que nos permitió mantenerlo mientras que las versiones automáticas requirieron bajar los cambios de acuerdo a las necesidades. Y para terminar de convencerlos, la versión manual mostró un insuperable rendimiento de combustible: 14 Km./litro versus 11Km/litro para ambas versiones automáticas. Todos los modelos Accent 2012 tienen rangos de rendimiento que van entre 13 Km./litro para la ciudad y 17 Km /litro en ruta.
Puede entonces fácilmente entenderse que un sedán manual sería tan rápido y eficaz, pero no se vería tan estético o no tendría el mismo espacio para el equipaje. Nuestro voto de confianza es para la transmisión.

• Principio: este proceso se refiere a aguas brutas cuyo contenido máximo en hierro es de 5mg/l y que no presentan otras características desfavorables: manganeso, color, turbiedad, ácidos húmicos, tolerándose no obstante un pequeño contenido de amoniaco y una agresividad carbónica moderada. En algunos casos, podrán tratarse de igual forma aguas cuyo contenido en hierro llegue hasta 10mg/l.
La primera parte del tratamiento de desferrización se basa en una oxidación del hierro bivalente por el oxígeno del aire. Esta aeración puede hacerse:
• a la presión atmosférica, en instalaciones por gravedad;
• a presión, por inyección de aire comprimido en unas torres de oxidación rellenas de materiales de contacto (normalmente, lava volcánica).
La ventaja de las instalaciones del segundo tipo consiste en la posibilidad de hacer que trabajen a la presión de impulsión en la red, si bombeo de recogida.
Por el contrario, la aeración a la presión atmosférica permite generalmente la evacuación, de forma más económica, del gas carbónico agresivo, que exige un tratamiento costoso de neutralización cuando su contenido es elevado.
La rapidez de la oxidación del hierro bivalente por el oxígeno depende de varios factores, en especial: temperatura, pH, contenidos de hierro y de oxígeno disuelto.
La ecuación de la reacción puede escribirse:

Y su cinética se expresa por la relación Stumm & Lee:
(Fe2 ) = k. (Fe2 ). PO2. (OH-) (2)
Siendo la constante k función de la temperatura y del poder amortiguador del agua bruta.
La reacción (1) muestra que se necesitan 0,14 mg de oxígeno para oxidar 1mg de hierro.
La reacción (2) muestra que la reacción será tanto más rápida cuanto más elevado sea el pH y cuanto más próxima esté el agua a la saturación de oxígeno.
El tiempo de oxidación determinado en laboratorio con un agua sintética puede verse considerablemente disminuido en la mayoría de las instalaciones, gracias al efecto catalítico:
- de los sedimentos anteriores;
- de ciertos aniones presentes en el agua, principalmente silicatos y fosfatos;
- eventualmente, de ciertos catalizadores metálicos introducidos en el agua durante el tratamiento: trazas de sulfato de cobre pueden ejercer gran influencia en la oxidación del hierro y del manganeso por el oxígeno o los oxidantes químicos.
Lo mismo sucede en ciertos fenómenos biológicos que se examinan más adelante. Por el contrario, la presencia de ácidos húmicos retrasa la oxidación del hierro.
Según las técnicas utilizadas, el precipitado formado puede contener mayor o menor proporción de carbonato ferroso, más cristalino que el hidróxido férrico; esta particularidad explica las notables diferencias observadas en el funcionamiento de algunas instalaciones: la talla efectiva del material filtrante puede estar comprendida entre 0,5 y 1,7 mm, y la velocidad entre 5 y 20 m3/(m2.h), si no es más.
También, por las mismas razones, es muy variable el peso de hierro retenido por unidad de superficie filtrante: 200 a 2500 g de Fe por m2 de arena, según los casos. De forma general, los filtros bicapa (antracita arena) se adaptan muy bien a la desferrización.
Translation - English B1.Simple deferration without decantation (aeration- filtration)
• Principle: this process refers to raw waters whose maximum iron content is 5 mg/l and which do not pose other unfavourable characteristics, such as: manganese, colour, turbidity, humic acids, though low ammonia content and certain reasonable carbonic aggressiveness are accepted. In some cases, waters with iron content reaching 10mg/l could be treated following the same procedure.
The first part of the deferration treatment is based on the bivalent iron oxidation by the oxygen in the air. This aeration could be done:
• at atmospheric pressure , in gravity facilities.
• at pressure by compressed air injected in oxidation towers filled with contact materials (generally, volcanic lava).
The second type of facilities allows the towers to work at back pressure in the network without collection pumping. On the contrary, the aeration at atmospheric pressure generally allows cheaper discharges of aggressive carbonic gas which demands an expensive neutralization treatment when its content is high.
The speed of the bivalent iron oxidation by oxygen depends on many factors, such as: temperature, pH, iron and oxygen dissolved contents. The equation for the reaction is as follows:

And its kinetics is shown by Stumm & Lee’s relationship:

where constant k depends on the temperature and the buffer power of raw water. Reaction (1) shows that 0.14 mg of oxygen is required to oxidize 1 mg of iron. Equation (2) shows that the higher the pH and the nearer to oxygen saturation the water is, the faster the reaction will occur.
The oxidation time obtained in laboratory using synthetic water could diminish in most of the facilities, due to the catalytic effect of:
- previous sediments,
- certain anions present in the water, mainly silicates and phosphates.
- certain metallic catalysts introduced in the water treatment: traces of copper sulphate can influence on iron and manganese oxidation by oxygen or chemical oxidants.
Certain biological phenomena which are examined afterwards produce the same effect. On the contrary, iron oxidation is delayed by the presence of humic acids.
According to the techniques used, the precipitate formed can contain higher or lower proportions of ferrous carbonate and becomes more crystalline than ferric hydroxide. This peculiarity explains the noticeable differences observed in the operations of some facilities: the effective size of the filter material can range between 0.5 and 1.7mm and the speed between 5 and 20 m3/(m2.h), if not faster.
Due to the same reasons, the iron weight retained per unit of filtering surface is quite variable: 200-2.500 g of iron per square metre of sand. In general, double-layer filters (anthracite sand) are well adapted to deferration.
