About me

I started translator career as a proofreader at the Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, Inc. where I learned all ins-and-outs of book publishing. I also provided IT support and training.

In 2001, I became a freelance translator and worked in pharmaceutical field, especially with patient-targeted medical texts. I went back to university to obtain a master's degree in pharmacy. I did my thesis on encapsulation of metal nanoparticles as possible theranostics agents. Having finished my practice at community pharmacy, I am now completely focused on pharmaceutical and medical translations.

My work process

As a registered pharmacist I am able to combine linguistic aptitude with industry insights. I take extra care to ensure terminology compliance and consistency. The first thing is to ensure that I have sufficient subject matter expertise required for a given text. Additional research is performed when required, When translating, my main concern is the target reader: translations need not only be of correct meaning but also in native style, professional language and at appropriate educational level.

In my work I have implemented good translation practice and I always check that all necessary steps are completed to ensure high quality. I believe that medical translation is the area where quality as a process makes most sense. I also respect the confidentiality of my clients and translation agencies and never disclose their information to anyone without written consent. My computer and files are well protected from any security breaches.

I have developed style guides and glossaries for translation agencies and my clients. When the client does not provide its own style guide, I have developed a standard style guide that is available here. I have collected glossaries of pharmaceutical and statistical terms from public sources and published them for free on AvePri website. I also keep the records of my continuous professional development (CPD) to document the update of my linguistic and professional skills.

I provide translation, revision, proofreading and quality control services. I can perform quality assurance and translation validation services, including cognitive debriefing and linguistic testing that can identify and evaluate communicative aspects of a target text, assess readability and identify comprehension issues. My working languages are English, Latvian, Russian and Spanish.
