Bio

A few facts and a little bit of history… A native French speaker, I grew up in France and graduated from the universities of Lyons and Grenoble with an M.A. in Teaching French as a Second/Foreign Language and a B.A. in English (Literature and Translation). Having caught the travel bug and an appetite for trying new things at a young age, I exported my teaching skills to various places such as Ireland, India, Finland, Bulgaria and Switzerland for 5 years between 1996 and 2001.
I then moved to the US and spent 5 wonderful years in Atlanta, Georgia, first as deputy cultural attaché at the French Consulate, then as director of education at Alliance Française, a well-known non-profit French language school and cultural centre with chapters all over the world.
But it is in Canada that I really first put my translation skills to the test 8 years ago, while serving as campus manager at the Toronto Alliance Française chapter. At the beginning of 2012, I decided to follow this passion I’d always had for writing and languages and embrace translation on a full-time basis. I like to say that it never was a career change, but rather a career move because it made perfect sense then. Guess what? Still does.

So what? Behind the facts…
Becoming a translator is seldom a random choice, let alone the work of chance, especially for freelancers. I chose translation because :

- I love to learn new stuff all the time! Who thinks that the terminology of fridges and coffee makers is interesting? I do! Seriously? Seriously! (At least at the beginning).
- I love to challenge my creativity, rack my brains and use my imagination to find the most appropriate, most accurate, most natural and most catchy word or sentence.
- I love variety. Knowing that today could be about e-commerce, tomorrow about education and the day after about tourism is enough to get me up in the morning.
- I love acting! What? Yes, you read well! Because each project is different and requires different perspectives, I get to wear different hats. I can be an advertiser one day, a journalist or a travel agent the next! I am who I translate for and never lose sight of who I translate to. My specialty? Marketing and corporate communications
