Source text - German Durchbruch in eine neue Welt
Kombiniertes Kabel- und Kontaktsystem für AS-Interface in Schutzart IP20
In rauer Industrieumgebung bei Schutzart IP6x ist AS-Interface vor allem dank seiner Wirtschaftlichkeit längst etablierter Standard in der Automatisierungstechnik. Jetzt wird der Sensor-Aktuator-Bus auch in der vergleichsweise wohlbehüteten IP20-Welt zur effizienten Alternative. Mit dem kombinierten Kabel- und Kontaktsystem, das LEONI und Weidmüller gemeinsam entwickelt haben, können Anwender nun auch hinter den Türen des Schaltschranks von den zahlreichen AS-i Vorteilen profitieren: So lassen sich gegenüber konventioneller Verdrahtung die Installationszeit um 75 Prozent und die Verkabelungskosten um rund 40 Prozent reduzieren.
Wie sein Pendant für Schutzart IP6x überträgt auch das neue LEONI-Profilkabel für den Schaltschrank Daten und Energie gleichzeitig auf den beiden Adern ein und derselben Leitung. Neu an der jetzt für Schutzart IP20 konzipierten Variante sind indessen der Mantel aus flammwidrigem, halogenfreiem FRNC und der zusätzliche Verpolungsschutz: Eine spezielle Nase und ein Steg sorgen im Übrigen nicht nur für noch einfachere Montage, sie schützen auch vor eventuellen Schäden an den Litzen, wenn das Kabel versehentlich falsch eingelegt wird.
Die passende Anschlusstechnik zum IP20-Profilkabel von LEONI wurde von der Firma Weidmüller entwickelt, die ebenfalls Mitglied der AS International Association ist. Mit Hilfe eines innovativen Simulationsverfahrens gelang es Weidmüller, die Kontur des neuen Piercing-Kontakts so zu optimieren, dass sich die Isolation schon mit minimalem Kraftaufwand durchdringen lässt. Gleichzeitig wird die Kontaktkraft des Leiters auf die Kontur nach dem Kontaktieren maximiert und ein Herausrutschen nach dem Beschalten verhindert.
Unterm Strich ist mit dem neuen Kontaktsystem eine Zeit, Kosten und Raum sparende Lösung für die Schaltschrankverkabelung entstanden. Darüber hinaus profitiert der Anwender auch von der leichten Erweiterbarkeit, die er von AS-Interface im Feld bereits kennt: Zusätzliche Aktoren und Sensoren lassen sich jetzt auch im Schaltschrank problemlos nachrüsten.

A new AS-Interface twin cable and contact system for IP20 environments
In the harsh environs of industrial applications requiring IP6x levels of protection, AS-Interface has long become established as the standard for automation technology. This is in large part due to its relatively low cost, of course. Now, however, the successful actuator sensor bus is becoming an attractive alternative for the relatively sheltered IP20 world as well. The combined cable and interface system developed jointly by LEONI and Weidmüller now makes it possible for users to profit from the numerous AS-I advantages not only outside but also inside the switching cabinet. How? Quite simply by providing a savings of 75 per cent over conventional installation times and a reduction of around 40 per cent over the usual cabling costs.
Like its IP6x counterpart, the new LEONI profile cable for switching cabinets transmits data and power simultaneously over the two wires of the self-same conduit. The present version designed for IP20 environs does offer some new features, however. The outer jacket, for instance, is made of flame retarding non-corrosive plastic (FRNC), is halogen-free, and protected against reverse voltage. A specially designed nose and nose piece provide for easy installation as well as for protection against possible damage to the strands when inserted incorrectly.
The appropriate interfacing system for the LEONI IP20 Profile Cable was developed by Weidmüller Interface GmbH, who are also members of the AS International Association. With the help of some innovative simulation testing, Weidmüller was able to optimize the contour of the new piercing contact in such a way that the insulation material can now be penetrated with the greatest of ease. At the same time, however, the contact pressure of the wire onto the contour is maximized at the moment of contact, thus minimizing the likelihood of the wire coming loose after the connection.
So what’s the bottom line? The new contact system will save time, money and space. And there's the added advantage that AS Interface users know so well from the field: retrofitting the switching cabinet with actuators and sensors no longer presents even the slightest problem
