English to Russian: Retailers are Driven to Rapid Organic and Inorganic Growth General field: Bus/Financial Detailed field: Retail
Source text - English Retailers are Driven to Rapid Organic and Inorganic Growth
Accumulating enterprise mass by growing the number of stores is a key imperative for retailers.
Whether this growth comes organically, through new store openings in the mode of Starbucks; inorganically, through mergers and acquisitions like Federated department stores; or a combination of the two, in the mode of CVS, retailers look to store growth to improve their performance. Growth improves retail performance as follows:
• Sheer mass increases retailer buying power
• Servicing more stores without growing home office and other administrative expense drives dollars to the bottom line
• Store growth propels top line growth – the never-changing shareholder demand
Growth, especially rapid growth, does not come without costs however. Rapid store
growth exerts significant pressures on the entire enterprise:
• Distraction from other business activities: Just keeping up with the sheer volume of store openings can prove to be a distraction for store operations, human resources, merchandise management, real estate, and construction personnel.
• A drain on working capital: Uncontrolled growth can drain working capital from the organization as overstressed and overworked real estate managers throw money at the problem to meet reviously planned store opening dates or find storage for furniture, fixtures and computer equipment when it arrives on site before it can be installed. The truth is many retailers have been driven to bankruptcy as a result of poorly planned and executed aggressive growth strategies.
The stresses that rapid growth place on a retail organization are often hidden from the public eye or quite some time. A combination of dedicated personnel and money keep things looking good on the surface, while internally, cash and productivity is drained from the organization.

Translation - Russian
- Большие масштабы дают возможность роста покупательской способности компании;
- Обслуживание большего количества магазинов без расширения главного офиса и увеличения других административных затрат увеличивает, в результате, объем прибыли;
- Рост количества магазинов стимулирует рост валового дохода – неизменный спрос акционеров;
