I am a native English freelance translator working from French and Spanish into English and have accumulated years of translation experience in wine, tourism, the environment and social issues, and administrative commercial and personal legal texts. I focus on accuracy, clarity and readability – and making sure my clients are happy.
For me, constant education is key to achieving high quality. To supplement the constant research required as part of my work, I enjoy engaging in events and courses to develop my writing skills and subject knowledge.
My experience is underpinned by a strong academic background in translation: I have an MA in Applied Translation Studies (University of Leeds) and BA in Modern Languages (Newcastle University). It was while studying for my BA that I first became intrigued by legal translation and also discovered my passion for wine during an internship in Bordeaux.
My enthusiasm for what I do has propelled me to become a thorough and consistent translator, communicating the message clearly in every project I do. I listen closely to my clients and go the extra mile to ensure my translation meets all of their expectations.
Typical translation projects include:
WINE- OR OENOLOGY-related texts, such as scientific methods for oenological practices, or industry recommendations; or promotional texts such as news and blog articles, tasting notes, product descriptions and websites;
TOURISM translations, including tourist information, press kits and other online and offline promotional materials for local tourist boards, travel companies, hotels and event organisers;
ENVIRONMENT and SOCIAL ISSUES projects, specifically articles on sustainability and energy, marketing materials for environmentally-focused companies, political pieces, and articles on human rights and equality;
LEGAL (BUSINESS, PERSONAL and ADMINISTRATIVE) documents including commercial contracts, court documents, crime reports and police records, personal documents such as birth, marriage, civil-partnership, divorce and death certificates, and other supporting documents for immigration applications.
Continuing Professional Development
I regularly engage in CPD in order to build on my subject knowledge and writing skills, including intensive courses, webinars, conferences and industry events.
