Bio
Bilingual French/English translator with excellent experience within and Anglo-French environment in the archaeology sector, and
MY BACKGROUND

A part-time freelance translator based in London, I specialise in academic and scientific texts from French to English. I have a background in archaeology, having worked as an archaeologist and archaeological supervisor for nearly 10 years, both in the UK and in France. I also translate official documents such as driver's licences. birth certificates, and insurance statements from French to English and vice versa.

EDUCATION

I graduated with a 2:1 BA Joint Honours in Archaeology and Ancient History/French Studies from the University of Birmingham in 2004. More recently I achieved a merit in the Principles and Practice of Translation (French-English) postgraduate certificate from London City University in 2012. I believe that continual personal development is important both for keeping up to date with the industry and to ensure that I carry on developing and expanding my skills. I will be beginning and Arabic language course with Imperial College in October 2016.

WHAT ARE MY SPECIALIST AREAS?

My specialist areas are archaeology, geo-archaeology, and history. Having spent 10 years working in the preventive archeology sector and 1 year as a curator of archaeology at Historic Royal Palaces, I have acquired knowledge of both practical field archaeology techniques as well specific terms related to this discipline and historical knowledge. I have worked on many archaeological sites in the UK, France and Egypt spanning from the Neolithic period to the Modern era and have contributed to a number of archaeological reports. My experience in this field gives me the understanding required to translate archaeology and geology related texts accurately. Although this is my specialist field, I also have a great interest in the general science and technology and have acquired experience in translating texts related to these fields through my own personal and tutored study. I am equally interested in subjects relating to culture, travel and current affairs.

WHAT SERVICES DO I PROVIDE?

I translate mainly from French into my mother tongue, English. I also offer proofreading and editing of translated texts and English monolingual text editing.

WHY CHOOSE ME?

My aim is to always provide a friendly approachable translation service that you can rely on, where every piece of work is completed with dedication, arrives to you on time and is 100% accurate. I have the advantage of having lived and worked in France for 8 years within an Anglo-French environment, where my language skills have always been called upon and have therefore been able to continuously improve and develop. I am bilingual and have a thorough understanding of both cultures, which gives me a great advantage when it comes to translating.

I am highly motivated and I hope my love of translating and passion for language translates into the work that I do. Do check out my website for more details: Translation Ninja and my blog for some light reading: Ninja Musings
