Source text - English What is dementia?
The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease (AD), which has dominated our thinking about neurodegenerative disorders and even determined the definition of the term “dementia” itself. It is clear, however, that there are many other causes of dementia. Before discussing these it is first necessary to consider what is meant by dementia and the history behind it.
The term “dementia” refers to a clinical syndrome, a combination or pattern of clinical features. Thus, dementia is not a disease, but rather a syndrome that can be associated with many different underlying diseases. In this sense it is similar to heartburn or headache, which is caused by many different things and could require many different treatments. Therefore, the statement that somebody has dementia is an inadequate diagnostic formulation: One must always try to determine the cause by appropriate investigations.

Experience
Years of experience: 18. Registered at ProZ.com: Oct 2010.
I attended the University of The Andes in Venezuela, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Modern Languages with a major in French. After my graduation in 2001, I moved to Belgium where I lived and worked for 8 years. That period of time changed my life forever… I became a Belgian citizen and, I had the great opportunity to travel throughout the European Union, discovered the richness of different cultures, and I improved my French to the point of speaking and writing like a native.
Some years were spent as a freelance translator, until I decided to attend the Sainte Julienne Nursing School for 4 years. After working in various hospitals and nursing homes, the call of love brought me to the United States where I am now, happily ensconced in WA State.
I took advantage of the two professions to become specialized in medical translations. So without wasting time I devoted myself to validating my credentials and taking every needed test in order to reach the highest level of my profession.
Today I am a translator certified by the Department of Social and Health Services in WA State and also a member of the American Translator Association. For more information you are welcome to visit my website at www.translationmarks.com. I will be delighted to translate your projects from French to Spanish, English to Spanish, or Spanish and English to French.
