Source text - German Ebenso wie Vokabeln und Grammatikregeln einer fremden Sprache spielen in der interkulturellen Kommunikation nonverbale Signale anderer Nationen und Kulturen eine wesentliche Rolle, machen die grenzüberschreitende Kommunikation allerdings auch um einiges komplizierter. Der Grund: Mimik, Gestik und Haltung sind eng an eine bestimmte Kultur und gesellschaftliche Normen gebunden. Zwar gibt es bereits unzählige Studien, die belegen, dass emotionale Gesichtsausdrücke universell entschlüsselbar sind – verständlich müssen sie deswegen aber noch lange nicht sein. Basis- oder Universal-Emotionen wie Angst, Furcht, Glück, Trauer, Überraschung, Ärger, Ekel und Abscheu werden fast überall auf der Welt auf die gleiche Weise zum Ausdruck gebracht und äußern sich beispielsweise durch ein Stirnrunzeln als Zeichen von Skepsis oder Ärger. Trotzdem kann es beispielsweise von den jeweiligen gesellschaftlichen Konventionen abhängig sein, wann wer in welcher Situation lacht. Wer also grenzüberscheitend kommuniziert, kann nonverbal leicht ins Fettnäpfchen treten und sollte daher einige internationale körpersprachliche Besonderheiten beachten. (...)
Translation - English Just like foreign language vocabulary and grammar rules non-verbal signals of other nations and cultures play an important role in intercultural communication and indeed make it a lot more complicated. The reason: facial expression, gestures and posture are closely related to a specific culture and social norms. Countless studies have proved that emotional facial expressions are universally decodeable, but are nonetheless not always understandable. Basic or universal emotions like fear, happiness, sadness, surprise, anger and disgust are expressed in the same way almost all over the world and for instance are shown by frowning as a sign of scepticism or anger. Nevertheless it can depend on the respective social conventions, not only who laughs, but also when and in which situation. Thus, dropping a clanger can happen really easily in international communication and it is advisable to be aware of the peculiarities in international body language. (...)
