Learning starts long before school does. Children start learning the day they’re born, and the trajectory of their future success is shaped by their experiences in the first few years.
But too many parents, grandparents and caregivers don’t know how to support early learning. They need to understand that children are learning during everyday moments – doing everyday activities. As a child’s first and most important teacher, parents can easily turn everyday moments into fun, engaging learning opportunities – and by doing so they give their child the best start possible.
By the time children enter kindergarten, there’s a gap between those with quality early learning experiences and those without. That turns into an achievement gap by 3rd grade. Most children never catch up. But research shows that children with high-quality early learning in the first few years are more likely to finish school, become part of a productive workforce, and contribute to society and the economy.

El aprendizaje comienza mucho antes de ir a la escuela. Los niños empiezan a aprender el día en el que nacen, y la trayectoria de su éxito futuro es formada por sus experiencias en los primeros años.
Sin embargo, muchos padres, abuelos y personas al cuidado de los niños no saben cómo dar asistencia al aprendizaje de los primeros años. Ellos necesitan entender que los niños están aprendiendo durante los momentos diarios, realizando actividades cotidianas. Los padres, como el primer y más importante maestro de un niño, pueden fácilmente convertir los momentos de cada día en oportunidades de aprendizaje divertidas e interesantes, y haciendo eso le ofrecen a su niño el mejor inicio posible.

I'm a native Spanish speaker born and raised in Latin America; specifically in Panama, but also lived a few years in Colombia. I've been in the US since August 1991. I have done translations for about 7 years on subjects such as software localization, consumer appliances, cars, health insurance; social issues like drunk driving, mental health, youth reckless driving, obesity, autism, childhood asthma, high school dropout, etc., and computers.
Worked 2 1/3 years as an in-house Spanish Linguist in a translation agency specializing in technical translations. Since Feb 2011 I have switched to freelance translation.
Learned to use several CAT tools during those 2 1/3 years: Star Transit XV, Wordfast, Alchemy Catalyst, and SDLX (the first 2 more intensively). Also did software and website testing and localization and some DTP work (quality check).
I also have studied Computer Science (up to Senior year) and taken 2 translation classes. My first job was doing software localization for a major computer manufacturer through a translation agency. Since then, I've translated news releases for 2 non-profit organizations in a variety of topics (listed above).
