Source text - English Humility: Recognizing Who We Really Are

Romans 12:3 says, “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment.” This is what humility is—it’s recognizing who we really are. What Scripture has to say about who we really are is not a great compliment. We’re sinners. Even before we were sinners, we were still small, finite beings, and we always will be.
But it’s okay to be small. What’s not okay is to be a sinner. But that’s the state that we’re in through our own choice. That’s our very nature. Yes, Scripture says we all sinned in Adam, but we are all sinners in our own lives.
Humility is recognizing our own unworthiness and the fact that I literally deserve to go to Hell for all eternity. If I come to grips with that, then I don’t have high expectations that everybody should celebrate how great I am, because I am not great.
Now, at the same time, we could go overboard with that and spend our whole lives thinking about what rotten people we are and not celebrate what Christ has done for us. In Christ, we are cleansed of our sin. Scripture says, “He has made him to be sin for us, he who knew no sin, that we may be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21). In this same context, Romans 12 goes on to talk about each of us having spiritual gifts given to us from God to serve for the good of the body. There is the humility of service that comes from using our gifts, so we’re not celebrating these great gifts that we have, but instead we’re using them to honor Christ and to serve as He did. He’s the One who came not to be served, but to serve and to give His life a ransom for many.
Christ is our model of humility. Philippians 2 talks about how He lowered Himself. This is our privilege: to be humble servants of God. If you’re a servant of God, and somebody treats you like a servant once in a while, you don’t claim your rights and get indignant about the fact that you were treated like a servant. Hey, you’re called to be a servant! And it’s a high calling. Jesus was called to be a servant and has given us an example that we should follow in His footsteps.
When a great athlete does something admirable, but they’re the ones to rave on and on about their greatness, it doesn’t appeal to us or to God. That’s not humility; that’s pride. Pride pushes us away from God; humility draws us toward God. Humility puts us on God’s side, so to speak, where we agree with God about our true condition and our true need for Christ. Even as Christians, we need Christ today just as much as we did the day we came to faith in Christ. That’s something we should never forget.

En este mismo contexto, Romanos 12 continúa hablando acerca de que cada uno de nosotros tiene dones espirituales dados por Dios para servir al bien del cuerpo. Hay una humildad en el servicio que proviene del uso de nuestros dones, así que no estamos celebrando estos grandes dones que tenemos, sino que los estamos usando para honrar a Cristo y servir como Él lo hizo. El vino no para ser servido, sino para servir y para dar su vida en rescate por muchos.
Cristo es nuestro modelo de la humildad. Filipenses 2 habla acerca de como El se humilló. Este es nuestro privilegio: el ser siervos humildes de Dios. La humildad nos pone del lado de Dios, por así decirlo, un lugar donde estamos de acuerdo con Dios acerca de nuestra verdadera condición, y necesidad de Cristo. English to Spanish: THE HEBRAIC BLOOD COVENANT AND WHAT IT MEANS TODAY

Although not as prevalent today as in earlier times, there have been different types of blood covenants worldwide throughout the ages even until today. There are both genuine covenants and covenants that have been perverted into corruptible acts.
For example, every time a new tribe is discovered in the world, it is learned that they practice a form of a blood covenant. Primitive tribes in Africa, South America, and India that have been discovered, not having had any contact with civilization, had been practicing forms of blood covenant rituals, including drinking blood or cutting each other till blood flowed, etc.
Worldwide today there are also satanic blood sacrifices and rituals that involve dismemberment of animals and worse. These are perversions of the biblical blood covenant.
Missionaries should receive deserved recognition for bringing the New Testament Word of God to nations where human—men, women, and children—sacrifices were, and sometimes still are, commonplace. Many missionaries risked their lives to stop the brutal murders of innocents by shining the light of the Lord into dark and sinister beliefs based on fear and trying to satisfy the gods’ bloodthirsty appetites. A Scottish missionary, Dr. Livingstone, survived in the deepest places of Africa through cutting blood covenants with different strong tribes. I will give you more details on this later.
You have probably heard the phrase “blood brothers.” A few decades ago—before the onset of AIDS and Ebola—youngsters innocently poked the end of their fingertips to produce a drop of blood that they then “mixed” with a friend’s blood, making them blood brothers or sisters. It all comes from the same source, whether it is taken seriously by a tribe or a group of adults or kids playing.
Are there any other examples of blood covenants today? Yes, let me give you one example.
One of the places we find blood covenants today is within the Italian and Chinese Mafia groups in the United States. It is called “omertá” and is a blood oath, a code of silence to never reveal the “family’s” activities to the authorities. This has caused the police a lot of problems when it comes to bringing people to justice.
In October 2014, the mafia “family” Cosa Nostra was taken down because after more than a 100 years of protection by the omertá, someone has spoken, and 127 mobsters were arrested largely on the strength of informants.1 It will be interesting to see what happens to these informants. It depends on what they agreed to when they took the blood oath.
The blood covenant is such a powerful covenant, that it still produces what is agreed upon between the parties. It is working spiritually and practically!
An example of this: A CIA operative went to work undercover with the Mafia. He could not be accepted into the family without cutting a blood covenant with them. They would mix some of his blood and some of the blood of a member of the family in a cup of water and they would both drink from it and utter a curse. If he betrayed the family he would die a horrible death of the throat and tongue. Obviously this agent reported back to the CIA with everything he found out, ant the family was arrested, tried and punished. What happened to the agent? He got cancer of the throat that spread to the tongue and it resulted in his death.2
That actually happened!
People who have gone to the police with information about the group have died of throat cancer. A blood covenant is a very serious matter! Another example is Tommaso Buscetta from the Italian mafia. He was the first mafia boss to turn informant, and he died from cancer.3
Some of today’s inner-city gangs require new members to shed blood—their own or another’s blood—as a sign of loyalty. Even some “hazing” rituals on college and university campuses involve bloodshed as part of a commitment on behalf of the fraternity and an individual.
To understand the blood covenant today is important for several reasons:
• To understand the Word of God. There are so many things in the Bible that seem strange without this revelation. Small phrases you never understood will now make sense.
• To understand your rights as a child of God. Many people live below par as Christians when God has given His all for us to have it all through our Covenant with Him.
• Understanding why marriage is so special.
• Understanding about why various intimate partners affects people’s lives.
• And many more…
After examining the nine Hebrew rituals in the following chapter, which form the basis for the solid foundation we are laying for our lives of abundance, we will see why it is so important to understand how godly covenants work today.

El pacto de sangre es un pacto tan poderoso, que aún hoy día produce los resultados que se hayan acordado entre los grupos. ¡Está obrando espiritualmente y prácticamente!
Un ejemplo de esto: Un agente de la CIA se puso a trabajar de incógnito con la Mafia. Él no podía ser aceptarse dentro de la familia sin ser iniciado en un pacto de sangre con ellos. Ellos mezclaban parte de su sangre con la sangre de un miembro de la familia en una taza de agua y ambos bebían pronunciando una maldición. Si él traicionaba a la familia iba a morir una muerte horrible de la garganta y la lengua. Obviamente este agente informó a la CIA de todo lo que se enteró, y la familia fue arrestada, juzgada y castigada. ¿Qué pasó con el agente? Le sobrevino un cáncer de la garganta que se extendió a la lengua lo cual resultó en su muerte.2
¡Esto sucedió de veras!
Las personas que han ido a la policía con información sobre el grupo han muerto de cáncer de garganta. ¡Un pacto de sangre es un asunto muy serio! Otro ejemplo es el de Tommaso Buscetta de la Mafia Italiana. Fue el primer jefe de la Mafia que se convirtió en informante, y murió de cáncer.3
Algunas de las bandas callejeras de las zonas pobres de la ciudad hoy día requieren de miembros nuevos el que derramen sangre – ya sea la suya o la de otro - como una señal de lealtad. Incluso algunos rituales de "novatadas" en las universidades y colegios implican el derramamiento de sangre como parte de un compromiso de un individuo en nombre de la fraternidad.
La comprensión del pacto de sangre hoy día es importante por varias razones:
• Para comprender la Palabra de Dios. Hay tantas cosas en la Biblia que parecen extrañas sin esta revelación. Las pequeñas frases que nunca entendiste antes, ahora tendrán sentido.
• Para comprender cuales son tus derechos como hijo de Dios. Muchas Cristianos viven una vida inferior, cuando Dios ha dado Su todo para que nosotros lo tuviésemos todo mediante nuestro pacto con El.
• Comprender por qué el matrimonio es tan especial.
• Comprender porque el tener varias parejas íntimas afecta la vida de las personas.
• Y muchas más...
Después de examinar los nueve rituales hebreos en el capítulo siguiente, que forman la base para el fundamento solido que estamos asentando para nuestra vida de abundancia, veremos la importancia de comprender como funcionan los pactos divinos en la actualidad.
