At this point you have taken the Bar-On EQ-i®, discussed your results with an EQ coach, and you are probably reflecting on how your EQ skills are playing out in your life. This EQ & You workbook is a self-directed process to help you create a personal emotional intelligence development plan. Research (by Richard Boyatsis at Case Western University in the US) has shown that there are five factors that are related to success in developing emotional intelligence. No surprise, having an accurate assessment of your current level of EQ and a formal plan to change it are key. Holding a vision for yourself as a more emotionally intelligent person gives energy to the plan. Sharing the plan and getting support from other people help to keep you on track. My work as a freelance translator is something that I thoroughly enjoy doing because of the constant learning that one must go through. As languages are changing continually, by working as translators we too need to change, and frequently update our knowledge, and be aware that we must always be open to new experiences because this is how we will get better at what we do.
